Spring is in the Air

Spring is in the Air
Spring has arrived here in Southeastern Idaho.  Winter is usually very loathe to let go around here but eventually it happens.  The dramatic transformations that occur here in Pocatello, when the snow melts, are breath-taking.  The trees begin leafing out and flowering.  The grass returns to green, rather than this semi-brown color it is all winter.  The tulips and daffodils are blooming as are many other Spring bulb flowers.  It was time to pull out the camera and take some pictures of the beautiful Spring scenes that nature has been providing.

After taking a lot of time to get the right lighting, the cloudy and rainy weather has been helping with that, it was a simple matter of finding pictures and flowers that worked.

This first image is of some peach blossoms.  I had been wanting to have one of my own photos with this classic, short-lived, and very delicate flower.  Previous years had not been kind to me.  Either I got out to photograph the flowers too late or the trees didn't have something that was worth the effort.  This year, I managed to get out in time and to find something classic for a quality photo.

The bulb flowers are out in bloom so I wanted to get some pictures of them too.  Tulips and daffodils have a longer life-span than peach blossoms do but they will only last for a certain period of time as well.  The red emperor tulips are usually the first of the tulips to appear and bloom followed by the lovely yellow daffodils.  I managed to get out in time for the tulips to still be showy and the daffodils are young in blooming.  The juxtaposition (side-by-side comparison) of the yellow daffodil and the red tulip was very eye-catching and made for a strong statement.

Some of the emperor tulips had matured enough for some macro work.  The inside of this tulip caught my attention with its contrasting shapes.  The wind was not making this particular photo an easy thing to capture.  The fine details of this flower center were often lost with just a tiny breeze blowing while I was composing this photograph.  Fortunately for me, the wind paused long enough for me to snap this image with a high degree of detail visible.

As the warm weather continues to unfold this year, there should be more photos coming.  I haven't been a big fan of photography in the winter and the snow.  This is my time of year.
