Photo of the Week 24

Photo of the Week 24
It's Friday again and time for the weekly featured "Photo of the Week" here at Cramer Imaging.  This week's photograph of note is this icy but reflective stream set against the red branches of dormant local plants and the snow capped mountains in the distance.

We were looking for some new material to photograph on a cold winter day.  We elected to visit one of our favorite locations to take pictures.  We knew this would be a different look for the area with the leaves gone and snow covering the ground.

It was a miserable hike into this region of the trail.  My spouse was wearing hiking boots which the tread was wearing out completely.  This resulted in lots of slipping and sliding on his part.  He was thoroughly exhausted by the end of the hike.

There were a few things catching my attention but nothing was working out right.  I even found something looking promising if I waded out carefully into some shallow water with my camera.  Sadly, that shot was disappointing since it did not turn out the way I had hoped at all.

We continued on, hoping that something would work out for us.  The cold and the weight of the camera gear we had was beginning to change our minds about continuing our hike that day.

At the end of the trail, we were rewarded for our perseverance with this view.  It was utterly breath-taking and just begging me to photograph it.  I immediately set to work on doing just that.

The light was perfect and the water, though not stagnant, was still enough to reflect the surrounding foliage with only slight amounts of current distortion.  Opportunities like this are not easy to find so I was grateful to take advantage of this one.
