Our Famous Idaho Weather

Our Famous Idaho Weather
A few days ago, the famous Idaho weather of spring has reared its ugly head again.  Things were coming along nice and warm.  The spring flowers were out.  The fruit trees were blooming.  It was finally getting comfortable to go outside without a jacket.  Then, BOOM.  More winter hits.

Everyone who spends much time in Idaho quickly realizes that winter does not want to let go of this area once it has its claws set in.  We have been known to get snow storms hitting us well into summer.  A little April snow is hardly surprising but still dismaying.

I love Idaho, I really do.  But I hate the snow and the unpredictability of the weather this time of year.  At least the flowers and plants which are awake right now are tolerant enough of this kind of weather that a late frost or blizzard won't kill them.

This snow storm was a photo opportunity though.  One does not often see spring flowers out and surrounded on all sides by a fresh layer of snow.  Since the second round of tulips has begun to show their heads, it was a photo opportunity to not pass up.

The wind was brutal and constantly gusting.  This made it miserable for creature comforts and extra difficult for me to take a proper picture without some serious motion blur.  Fortunately, there are some flowers which were reasonably sheltered that I could work with as subject matter.

This lovely yellow tulip stands as a testament that, even in the midst of a storm, there is calm and beauty to be found if one is ready to brave the elements and try.
