Photo of the Week 52

Photo of the Week 52
It's Friday again and we are excited to present to all of you our selection for this week's "Photo of the Week."  This time, we have decided to feature, for your viewing pleasure, these circus elephants taking a break from riding the train.

I was in the middle of a photography class when I heard word from my professor that a circus train had made and pit stop and there were elephants out to photograph.  I decided that this was an opportunity I could not pass up.  I got directions to where they were and we were off.

Once there, I could see that there were a lot of people who had gathered to check out the sight as well.  This was not much of a problem as there was still plenty of space to see the elephants clearly and take pictures.

The animal handlers had built a temporary pen for the elephants to stretch out in and take care of business.  The animals themselves were enjoying the opportunity to throw hay and straw over their heads.

The elephants seemed to want to group together most of the time.  This made it difficult for me to get an individual shot in profile view, which was what I was hoping for.

After I took my fill of pictures, we headed back.  I had plans to process them quickly but didn't end up doing so.  The files became lost for a while and I thought they were gone for good.  Thanks to my persistent spouse finding a backup of this shoot, this picture was able to see the light of day.
