Photo of the Week 54

Photo of the Week 54
It's another Friday and it's time for Cramer Imaging's featured "Photo of the Week" pick.  Following in the footsteps of previous weeks, we have selected an animal picture to share with you.  We are pleased to present this black swan swimming to you as our choice for photo of the week at the end of August.

This swan is another out of the series of bird photographs we have taken out at the Tautphaus Park Zoo in Idaho Falls.  Birds and bird photography end up working out well for us there.

This was another cooler day at the end of summer when we ventured up Interstate 15 again, with camera in tow, to take pictures at the zoo.  Many of the animals had been put away for the season already.  This limited what we could shoot photos of that day.

While wandering around the various exhibits and looking for animals still on display, I happened upon this enclosure for swans.  There were still birds present so out came my camera and I was clicking away.

This swan was swimming some distance away from the edge of the enclosure so I needed my telephoto lens in order to get in close like this.

Swans are known to be temperamental and ferocious birds if disturbed.  Their size adds to this perception when attacking.  I was glad that this particular one was content to enjoy the shallow pool and sit calmly in a rather photogenic pose.

One does not often see a swan of any other color besides white.  This black swan is a bit of a rarity amongst the species.  I was happy to have the opportunity to take this picture of a black swan that day.
