Photo of the Week 74

Photo of the Week 74
It's Friday again already.  Yep, it's true.  The weekend is just a few hours away.  Until that time, we want to introduce our featured "Photo of the Week."  This photograph depicts a rather rare environmental phenomenon called hoarfrost.

What is hoarfrost?  It's what happens when it's foggy and the temperature is below freezing.  The water which condenses out of the misty cloud freezes on the surface of whatever it comes into contact with.

The first time I ever saw this phenomenon I also happened to have my camera with me.  I was severely disappointed with the harsh orange tone of the sodium vapor lights where I took this photo.  I did not have the skills to process up this image when I initially took it.

It sat around for a few years and even got lost.  When we discovered the lost files, I was surprised to rediscover this image and also discover that it was in focus and sharp enough to process.  Since I knew that my Photoshop skills had improved significantly since I took the photo, I tried again.

Thankfully, this time my skills were up to the task.  I successfully removed the orange glare of the lights and revealed this dynamic winter photograph of hoarfrost clinging to tree branches.
