Photo of the Week 77

Photo of the Week 77
Another Friday has come.  That means that it's once again time for Cramer Imaging's featured "Photo of the Week."  This week we are unveiling our choice as this black and white photograph of a snow-covered tree in winter hibernation.

The story behind this photograph is a rather brief one.  It was a winter snowfall which prompted me to bring out my camera.  Snow had been a bit scarce that winter so I was going to take advantage of any chance I could get.

I have been intrigued by the look of snow caught on tree branches and bushes for a while now.  Not having one in my portfolio, I sought to remedy this.  All I needed was the right tree for the job.

Across the road from where I was, there was this giant deciduous tree which was hibernating for the season.  It had the snow piled up as I wanted.  I had to try for this shot.

My wide angle lens was not good enough to get in close.  I needed a telephoto lens for this shot.  Thanks to the cold, I was hand-holding my camera and praying for clean shots.

I noticed while processing that this photo, thanks to the cloudy skies in the background, was working out better in black and white than it was in color.  I made the switch and this photo was born.
