Photo of the Week 80

Photo of the Week 80
Thanks to another Friday arrival, Cramer Imaging has decided which photo from our portfolio which we will feature this week.  It was a bit of a difficult process but we finally decided that we want to feature this winter photograph of a solitary tree as our "Photo of the Week."

Last year, I noticed a distinct lack of winter landscape photos in my portfolio.  One of the big problems was a serious lack of snowfall that winter.  I can't take winter wonderland pictures if there's no winter wonderland from no snow.

When a morning came with some snow, I made sure that I got out with my camera.  Thanks to the warm weather right about then, the snow didn't stick for long.

I had been observing a common landscape photography composition technique of using a solitary tree as the focal point.  I decided that I wanted to give it a try.  The tree shown below had some promise with the recent snow in the background.

My big challenge was to get a landscape orientation shot of this busy road with no cars.  I had to take several shots before I got one that worked without any cars in it.

I worked with this photo for a while before making my standard check for suitability in black and white.  It just wasn't working for me until then.  One all the color was gone, then it became a landscape picture worth looking at.
