Photo of the Week 86

Photo of the Week 86
Here's another Friday again.  Good things happen on Fridays like finding out what Cramer Imaging's featured "Photo of the Week" is for this week.  For this particular week, we have selected this photograph of a bright yellow daffodil flower to highlight.

This photograph story begins on yet another cold spring day when I saw some of the flowers blooming for all the world to see.  This time, it was from the bulbs planted in the front yard flower bed.  They are some of the mid-spring blooms we see out there.

I decided that I wanted to add a daffodil to my portfolio so I grabbed my camera to make it happen.  I wanted to select just the right flower for the job.  The problem was that several of the flowers, while nice specimens for flower bouquets, were not all that photogenic.  Getting this shot required some patience and more than one attempt as the flowers kept blooming.

Once I saw this particular flower, I knew that I had a winner.  I needed just the right background for it in order to make it work.  This took some interesting exercise work in picking a spot to stand.  There are lots of other bulbs planted in that area which were also bursting into bloom.  I didn't want to ruin those while pursuing this one photo.

This photo was a matter of patience in more than just picking out the right flower to shoot pictures of.  The day I found this flower, it was was also very windy.  I ended up having to time my shutter with breaks in the breeze.  Otherwise, the very shallow depth of field would have blurred the photo with the slightest gust.  Thanks to patience and lots of tries, I have a tack sharp picture of the daffodil.

I debated about keeping the greenery of the leaves in the background.  I wasn't sure how to get rid of them in the field but knew what to do in Photoshop.  I ended up deciding that I liked them there.  The leaves added a natural element which I liked.
