Photo of the Week 106

Photo of the Week 106
It was another hot and sultry summer day.  I was in search of a photo to take.  Because it was miserably hot and bright sunlight, I wasn't sure that I would get something that day.  Thankfully, I was wrong in that assumption.  The photo I got that day ended up becoming this week's featured "Photo of the Week."

I started walking around a local city park with my camera.  I wanted a change of pace and a bit of different scenery for a while.  I was hoping for some bird photos but none of them turned out.  The birds didn't want to stay put.  All the photos blurred.

I changed my focus.  I started searching for some of the local flora in hopes of getting something from that walk.  Some of the flowers seemed promising but were in the harsh direct sunlight.  That automatically precluded them from working out.

This blooming thistle bud was one flower which was in the shade enough to be worth trying.  I went with a very wide aperture in order to soften the background with bokeh.  I liked the flower with its spiky points but the rest of the plant was not so visually appealing.

This photo was one of those which didn't seem to require much work when I was out in the field, but required much more in post-processing.  It started off a lot darker than I wanted it to be.  I did a lot of work on this photo lightening it up and making the colors as dramatic as they are.  It was several hours worth of Photoshop work to yield this beautiful photograph.  Now it just glows.
