Photo of the Week 123

Photo of the Week 123
It's another Friday morning just before Christmas.  It's almost the weekend but you still have lots to do for the holiday and a full day's, or afternoon's, work ahead of you.  How about taking a well deserved few minutes time out?  We've got just the thing for you.  Come check out Cramer Imaging's featured "Photo of the Week."  It's festive this week.

This week, we've chosen to feature this photograph of a fir tree covered in fresh snow just in time for the holiday this weekend.  We hope you're ready for all the excitement and the festivities.

Last year, the snow was rather sparse so we had to get in those winter shots when we could get them.  When the snow fell one day, I happened to notice how it piled up on the branches of a nearby fir tree on the neighbors' property.  I decided that it was worth trying for pictures of.

I bundled up in my cold weather gear, especially my snow boots, and got my camera gear together for the shot.  Having done winter photo shoots outside, I knew that this would be miserable so I prepared for my hands to freeze.  Gloves are no good when you need fine motor control to manipulate camera dials and buttons.

I waded out through the snow and ice to the tree and took several pictures.  As I wanted the close-up shot this time, I went with my macro lens.  I took a few different angles as I was trying for the best possible shot I could get out of this session.

Since I was hand-holding my camera, my hands did freeze.  I had to take a couple of breaks just to get them warm enough to function again.  I really don't like the cold.  Lack of hand function at crucial moments is just unacceptable.

Once I was satisfied that I got the shot I was looking for, I hurried back in side where I could warm up my hands before I got to work on culling and post processing the pictures I had just taken.

Every once in a while, I end up with a photo which doesn't require that much work in either Lightroom or Photoshop.  This ended up being one of those photos for me.  It really did make my day to land a photo like this.
