Photo of the Week 155

Photo of the Week 155
Hey, it's Friday again and we've got just what you need.  We've got a beautiful photograph featured as our "Photo of the Week" which you won't find anywhere else.  Want to know more about this beautiful wild sunflower photo?  Well, that's what we're here to share with you.

This is the third in a series of wild sunflower photos which I took last summer.  I found that I wanted to capture their golden yellow beauty before it faded away with the change of season into autumn.  So, I went to work.

The first couple of photos I took left a bit to be desired.  They were taken late at night and didn't render as well as hoped.  I decided to check again to see if I could get a photo of this wildflower which I could be proud of.  It took some patience.

I found there were a few patches of these flowers growing in the fence one day.  When the sky clouded over enough to give me even lighting on the flowers, I grabbed my camera and started looking for the perfect bloom to take pictures of.

I had to search a bit for this flower.  It was a bit late in the season for wildflowers to the blooms which were there had died down to heads, been snacked on by bugs, or simply didn't look perfect from the get go.  Finding this particular flower was a stroke of luck.  I quickly got to work.

I used the macro setting on my telephoto lens so that I could get in close enough to pick up little details.  I also had to work quickly because I knew that I could be dealing with the wind at any moment.  The flower would not hold still long enough for me and the resulting photos would blur.

Thankfully, my tripod and wide open aperture produced this silky soft bokeh with the flower head in complete focus.  It was the best shot of a wild sunflower I got that year.
