Photo of the Week 162
Hello again photography fans.  It's that day of the week when we give you an exciting gift.  It's time for us to unveil our pick for featured "Photo of the Week."  This week, we've chosen a landscape photograph a bit closer to home than some of our landscape features lately.  We've got a photograph from City of Rocks near Twin Falls.

It was our first trip to City of Rocks near Twin Falls Idaho.  It was a rainy summer day.  We were checking out the national reserve for photo opportunities.  We had been promised that we could take a few steps and the whole photo would change.  It was not quite that dramatic but the landscape views certainly do change depending upon where you are standing.

We decided to check out a window arch which we saw listed on the side of the road.  It was a small pile of rocks forming a window looking out to some of the rest of the park.  It's really better for people posing.  What caught my attention was a rather sizable monolith of a rock on the short hike in.  It was standing out against the landscape in such a way that demanded a photo.

I found myself reminded of a popular Ansel Adams photograph of a powerful monolith rock.  With the foliage in the foreground, it added a different flavor than that of the classic black and white photograph.  This rock formation is not nearly the size nor the angle of that photograph but that's what gives it charm to me.

The warm colors of pink with a tinge of gold contrast with the green of the cedar and sage.  The purple and blue of the distant mountains adds just the right final touch of color to this shot making it distinctly my own though still bearing the inspiration of one of the great masters in fine art photography.
